چکیده

We present a direct method to calculate a 6DoF pose change of a monocular camera for mobile navigation. The calculated pose is estimated up to a constant unknown scale parameter that is kept constant over the entire reconstruction process. This method allows a direct calculation of the metric position and rotation without any necessity to fuse the information in a probabilistic approach over longer frame sequence as it is the case in most currently used VSLAM approaches. The algorithm provides two novel aspects to the field of monocular navigation. It allows a direct pose estimation without any a-priori knowledge about the world directly from any two images and it provides a quality measure for the estimated motion parameters that allows to fuse the resulting information in Kalman Filters. We present the mathematical formulation of the approach together with experimental validation on real scene images.

Camera Pose Estimation in Unknown Environments using a Sequence of Wide-Baseline Monocular Images

In this paper, a feature-based technique for the camera pose estimation in a sequence of wide-baseline images has been proposed. Camera pose estimation is an important issue in many computer vision and robotics applications, such as, augmented reality and visual SLAM. The proposed method can track captured images taken by hand-held camera in room-sized workspaces with maximum scene depth of 3-4...

An Alternative Approach to Recovering 3D Pose Information from 2D Data

A novel approach is presented for real-time pose estimation of a known object being observed through a single camera. The future aim is to develop the method outlined here into a robust closed-form solution suitable for implementation on a monocular face tracking system. However, the method outlined in this paper offers a generic 2D to 3D pose estimation technique which is not limited to face t...

Remote Satellite Position & Pose Estimation Using Monocular Vision

This thesis investigates methods for estimating relative 3D position and pose from monocular image sequences. The intended future application is of one satellite observing another, when flying in close formation. The ideas explored in this thesis build on methods developed for use in camera calibration and Kalman filter-based structure from motion (SfM). Each of the algorithms relies on visible...

Self-initializing Head Pose Estimation With a 2D Monocular USB Camera

In this paper, we describe a method for estimating 3d pose of a human head from a 2d monocular web-cam image. We propose a novel system based on existing computer vision techniques for real-time head pose estimation, which can start and recover from failure automatically without any previous knowledge of the user’s appearance or location and keeping the user free of any devices or wires. The sy...

Estimating Human Dynamics On-the-fly Using Monocular Video For Pose Estimation

Human pose estimation using uncalibrated monocular visual inputs alone is a challenging problem for both the computer vision and robotics communities. From the robotics perspective, the challenge here is one of pose estimation of a multiply-articulated system of bodies using a single nonspecialized environmental sensor (the camera) and thereby, creating low-order surrogate computational models ...
